1. a) The effective date of membership in the System shall be the date of employment by an employer, as recorded by the employer.
2. b) In the absence of a record of the date of employment in the official proceedings of the qualifying employer, the date of membership shall be the first payroll day for which contributions were required.
3. c) For purposes of calculating the required contributions to purchase military service not immediately following employment under the provisions of 40 ILCS 5/16-128(a)(iii), and/or to purchase private school teaching under the provisions of 40 ILCS 5/16-128(d-5) in the absence of official records documenting the date of first full-time employment as a teacher, the date of first membership shall be defined as July 1 of the first year of System contributing service.
