a) Each unit in the establishment shall include, at a minimum, the following:

1. 1) A lockable door. The key to the unit is to be kept by the resident. The establishment shall keep a key to all lockable doors, to be used only in the case of an emergency situation. The door lock shall be capable of being disabled if required by the resident's service plan.
2. 2) A telephone jack.
3. 3) An emergency communication response system in place 24 hours each day by which a resident can notify building management, an emergency response vendor, or others able to respond to his or her need for assistance. (Section 10 of the Act)

b) To provide natural light and to provide safe egress in an emergency situation, a unit shall have:

1. 1) A window to the outside; or
2. 2) A door made of glass to the outside.
