a) Both raw and finished water-pumping stations must:

1. 1) have adequate space for the installation of additional units if needed, and for the safe servicing of all equipment;
2. 2) be of durable construction, fire and weather resistant, and with outward opening doors;

3. 3) not create a confined space;

   1. 4) have floors that slope to a suitable drain; and
   2. 5) provide a suitable outlet for drainage from pump glands without discharging onto the floor.

b) Suction wells must:

1. 1) be watertight;
2. 2) have floors sloped to permit removal of water and settled solids;

3. 3) be covered or otherwise protected against contamination; and

   1. 4) have two pumping compartments or other means to allow the suction well to be taken out of service for inspection maintenance or repair.

c) Equipment Servicing. Pump stations must be provided with:

1. 1) crane-ways, hoist beams, eyebolts, or other adequate facilities for servicing or removal of pumps, motors or other heavy equipment; and
2. 2) openings in floors, roofs or wherever else needed for removal of heavy or bulky equipment.
3. d) Provisions must be made for adequate heating for the safe and efficient operation of the equipment.

e) Ventilation

1. 1) Adequate ventilation must be provided for all pumping stations.

2. 2) Forced ventilation of at least six changes of air per hour must be provided for:

   1. A) all rooms, compartments, pits and other enclosures below ground floor; or
   2. B) any area where unsafe atmosphere may develop or where excessive heat may be built up.
3. f) Dehumidification must be provided in areas where excess moisture could cause hazards for operator safety or damage to equipment.
