1. a) During each radiographic operation, the radiographer or radiographer trainee shall maintain a direct surveillance of the operation to protect against unauthorized entry into a high radiation area, as defined in 32 Ill. Adm. Code 310, except:

   1. 1) Where the high radiation area is equipped with a control device or alarm system as described in 32 Ill. Adm. Code 340.610(a), or
   2. 2) Where the high radiation area is locked to protect against unauthorized or accidental entry.
2. b) Sources of radiation shall not be left unattended except when secured against unauthorized use, access or removal.
