- (a) There is established as a subordinate agency in the executive branch of the government of the District of Columbia, the Department of Forensic Sciences.
- (a-1) Not Funded.
(b) The mission of the Department shall be to provide high-quality, timely, accurate, and reliable forensic science services and public health laboratory services with:
- (1) The use of best practices and best available technology;
- (2) A focus on the delivery of unbiased science and an emphasis on promoting transparency in operations; and
- (2A) Not Funded.
- (3) The goal of enhancing public safety and the fair and balanced administration of justice.

Applicability
Applicability of D.C. Law 24-348: § 10 of D.C. Law 24-348 provided that the change made to this section by § 2(b) of D.C. Law 24-348 is subject to the inclusion of the law’s fiscal effect in an approved budget and financial plan. Therefore that amendment has not been implemented.
