1. (a) For purposes of [this part], the term:

   1. (1) "Campus police officer" means an individual appointed under § 5-129.02 and subject to the requirements of Chapter 12 of Title 6A of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations.
   2. (2) "Detective" or "detective agency" means and includes any person, firm, or corporation engaged in the business of, or advertising, or representing himself, or itself, as being engaged in the business of detecting, discovering, or revealing crime or criminals, or securing information for evidence relating thereto, or discovering or revealing the identity, whereabouts, character, or actions of any person or persons, thing or things.
   3. (3) "Security agency" means a person who conducts a business that provides security services.
   4. (4) "Security officer" means an individual appointed under § 5-129.02 and shall have the same meaning as provided in section 2100 of Title 17 of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations.
   5. (5) "Security services" means any activity that is performed for compensation by a security officer or special police officer to protect an individual or property.
   6. (6) "Special police officer" means an individual appointed under § 5-129.02 and subject to the requirements of Chapter 11 of Title 6A of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations.

Applicability of D.C. Law 24-333: § 9 of D.C. Law 24-333 provided that the creation of this section by § 5(d)(4) of D.C. Law 24-333 is subject to the inclusion of the law’s fiscal effect in an approved budget and financial plan. Therefore that amendment has not been implemented.

Section 7286 of D.C. Law 25-217 provided that the amendments made to this section by Section 5(d)(4) of D.C. Law 24-333 shall apply as of October 1, 2025. Therefore those amendments have been implemented.
