Applicability

Section 3 of D.C. Law 14-283 provided that the amendments made to this section shall apply upon the enactment of legislation by the United States Congress.

Congress enacted the District of Columbia Civil Commitment Modernization Act of 2004 (Public Law No. 108-450, H.R. 4302) on December 10, 2004. Therefore the amendments to this section by Section 3 of D.C. Law 14-283 have been implemented.

Temporary Legislation

Section 5(b) of D.C. Law 14-131 provided that the act shall expire after 225 days of its having taken effect.

Section 2(m) of D.C. Law 14-131 repealed this section.

Effect of Amendments

D.C. Law 14-283 substituted “commitment” for “hospitalization”.
