ASME A17.1-2013, Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, and addenda, are amended to meet the needs of Connecticut as follows:

1. (AMD) indicates the substitution of the text shown within the supplement for the corresponding section or subsection in ASME 17.1-2013 or addenda.

2. (DEL) indicates the deletion of the section or subsection without substituting new text.

5. (AMD) 2.2.2.6 Sumps in pits shall be provided and shall be covered. The cover shall be secured and level with the pit floor.

   SECTION 2.27 EMERGENCY OPERATION AND SIGNALING DEVICES

6. (AMD) 2.27.8 Switch Keys. The keys switches required by Sections 2.27.2 to 2.27.5, inclusive, and Section 2.27.11 for all elevators in a building shall be operable by the BFD-1 key. The key shall be Group 3 Security (see Section 8.1). A separate key shall be provided for each switch. These keys shall be kept on the premises in a location readily accessible to firefighters and emergency personnel, but not where they are accessible to the public. The key shall be coded "BFD-1". The key shall be limited to elevator personnel, emergency personnel, elevator equipment manufacturers, and authorized personnel during a check of firefighters' operation (see Sections 8.1 and 8.6.11.1). Where provided, a lock box, including its lock and other components, shall conform to the requirements of UL 1037 (see Part 9).

   SECTION 8.1 SECURITY

   4. (d) Side emergency exit doors on existing equipment. Exception: Authorized personnel shall not access or operate side emergency exit doors.

      SECTION 8.10 ACCEPTANCE INSPECTIONS AND TESTS

   Group 3 covers access or operation of equipment by emergency, authorized, and elevator personnel. This key shall be coded "BFD-1".

   SECTION 8.11 PERIODIC INSPECTIONS AND WITNESSING OF TESTS

11. (AMD) 8.11.1.3 Periodic Inspection and Test Frequency. The frequency of periodic inspections and tests shall be established by the authority having jurisdiction as follows:

    1. (a) Category 1 periodic tests--Intervals of 12 months
    2. (b) Category 3 periodic tests--Intervals of 36 months
    3. (c) Category 5 periodic tests--Intervals of 60 months

    4. (d) Periodic inspections--In accordance with Section 29-195 of the Connecticut General Statutes
