1. (a) Any individual seeking certification who is currently employed as a public safety telecommunicator or private safety telecommunicator shall be certified by the Office of State-Wide Emergency Telecommunications upon successful completion of a state-approved telecommunicator training program and the successful completion of a probationary work period as verified by the agency having jurisdiction.
2. (b) Any individual not currently employed as a public safety telecommunicator or private safety telecommunicator shall be certified by the Office of State-Wide Emergency Telecommunications upon his or her appointment as a public safety telecommunicator or private safety telecommunicator up to one (1) year after successful completion of a state-approved telecommunicator training program.
