1. (a) This subpart contains—

   1. (1) Procedures for approval of noncombustible materials used in merchant vessel construction;
   2. (2) The test and measurements required for approval of materials; and
   3. (3) A list of noncombustible materials for which specific approval under this subpart is not required.

2. (b) The test and measurements described in this subpart are conducted by a laboratory designated by the Commandant. The following laboratories are so designated:
