Electrical equipment on a vessel must be designed, installed, and maintained to—

1. (a) Provide services necessary for safety under normal and emergency conditions;
2. (b) Protect crew members, offshore workers, and the vessel from electrical hazards, including fire, caused by or originating in electrical equipment and electrical shock;
3. (c) Minimize accidental personal contact with energized parts; and
4. (d) Prevent electrical ignition of flammable vapors.
