A health care claims attachments transaction is the transmission of either of the following:

1. (a) Attachment information from a health care provider to a health plan in support of a health care claims or equivalent encounter transaction, as described in § 162.1101.
2. (b) A request from a health plan to a health care provider for attachment information.
