1. (2) Rotary knife machines shall be guarded by retractable or fixed guards.

   1. (A) Retractable guards shall enclose the blades and adjust automatically to the thickness of and remain in contact with the material being cut.
   2. (B) Fixed guards shall be in front of the rotary knife blade; the clearance between the fixed guard and the forward edge of the rotary knife blade shall not exceed one inch.

(a)(1) On reciprocating knife machines, a guard shall be provided in front of the knife blade. The clearance between the guard and blade shall not exceed two inches.
