1. (a) A listed manual or automatic-closing type hose nozzle valve shall be provided on dispensers used for the dispensing of Category 1 or 2 flammable liquids, or Category 3 flammable liquids with a flashpoint below 100 °F (37.8 °C).

2. (b) Overhead-type dispensing units shall be provided with a listed automatic-closing type hose nozzle valve without a latch-open device.

   1. (1) A listed automatic-closing type hose nozzle valve with latch-open device may be used if the design of the system is such that the hose nozzle valve will close automatically in the event the valve is released from a fill opening or upon impact with a driveway.
3. (c) Dispensing nozzles used at marine service stations shall be of the automatic-closing type without a latch-open device.

4. (d) Manual-closing type valves shall be held open manually during dispensing. Automatic-closing type valves may be used in conjunction with an approved latch-open device.

   Exception: Nozzles which are an integral part of a gasoline vapor recovery system, certified by the State Air Resources Board and the State Fire Marshal pursuant to the provisions of Sections 41954 through 41961, inclusive, of the California Health and Safety Codes.
