1. (a) There shall be a clearance of not less than ¾ in. (19 mm) between the car and the hoistway enclosure, and between the car and its counterweight.

2. (b) The clearance between the car platform and the landing sill shall be not less than ½ in. (13 mm) nor more than 1 ½ in. (38 mm).
