1. (a) A conductor of a flexible cord or cable that is used as a grounded conductor or an equipment grounding conductor shall have a continuous identifying marker readily distinguishing it from the other conductor or conductors.

   1. (1) Conductors having a continuous green color or a continuous green color with one or more yellow stripes shall not be used for other than grounding purposes. The identifying marker shall consist of one of the methods in (A) or (B) below:

      1. (A) Colored Braid. A braid finished to show a continuous green color or a continuous green color with one or more yellow stripes.
      2. (B) Colored Insulation or Covering. For cords having no braids on the individual conductors, an insulation of a continuous green color or a continuous green color with one or more yellow stripes.
2. (b) Types S, SC, SCE, SCT, SE, SEO, SEOO, SJ, SJE, SJEO, SJEOO, SJO, SJT, SJTO, SJTOO, SO, SOO, ST, STO, and STOO flexible cords and Types G, G-GC, PPE, and W flexible cables shall be durably marked on the surface at intervals not exceeding 24 in. (610 mm) with the type designation, size, and number of conductors.
