1. (a) Where within 8 feet vertically or 5 feet horizontally of ground or grounded metal objects and subject to contact by persons.
2. (b) Where located in a wet or damp location and not isolated.
3. (c) Where in electrical contact with metal.
4. (d) Where in a hazardous (classified) location as covered by Article 59.
5. (e) Where supplied by a metal-clad, metal-sheathed, or grounded metal-raceway wiring method.
6. (f) Where equipment operates with any terminal at over 150 volts to ground.

7. (g) Grounding of equipment mounted on poles shall comply with the Rules of Overhead Electric Line Construction of the California Public Utilities Commission, General Order No. 95.

   Exceptions: to Section 2395.42: Exposed noncurrent-carrying metal parts of the following types of fixed equipment need not be grounded:

8. 1. Enclosures for switches or circuit breakers used for other than service equipment and accessible to qualified persons only;
9. 2. Electrically heated appliances that are permanently and effectively insulated from ground;
10. 3. Distribution apparatus, such as transformer and capacitor cases, mounted on wooden poles, at a height exceeding 8 feet (2.44 m) above ground or grade level; and
11. 4. Listed equipment protected by a system of double insulation, or its equivalent, and distinctively marked as such.

Exposed noncurrent-carrying metal parts of fixed equipment that may become energized shall be grounded under any of the following conditions:
