1. (a) Prior to designation of any nominee as a mentor teacher, the governing board may gather such further information as it deems necessary to evaluate the nominee according to the criteria in Sections 44490 and 44491(b).
2. (b) The district governing board may meet in closed session to consider the appointment of any nominee to be a mentor teacher in the same manner that it may consider the appointment or employment of other employees.
