Cal. Code Regs. tit. 25, § 4522.3
The minimum size of all fuel-oil tank piping connecting outside tanks to the appliances shall be no smaller than three-eighths ( ⅜ ) inch outside diameter copper tubing or one-fourth ( ¼ ) inch iron pipe size. In those cases where No. 1 fuel oil is used with an automatic pump (fuel lifter), one-fourth ( ¼ ) inch outside diameter copper tubing may be used if specified by the pump manufacturer.
