1. (a) Longitudinal encroachments that do not directly serve the Department or water agencies receiving water from the State Water Project shall not be permitted. Exceptions will only be considered if the applicant demonstrates that the encroachment as proposed will not affect the Department's ability to operate, maintain or modify the State Water Project Aqueduct.
2. (b) For those instances where longitudinal encroachments are permitted, the longitudinal encroachment shall not be more than ten (10) feet from the right-of-way boundary line, and on the downslope side where open aqueduct exists.

The following general standards are the minimum requirements for ‘Longitudinal Encroachments'. These standards shall be met in addition to any requirements for an encroachment permit as set forth in these regulations. Each application shall be evaluated on an individual basis to ensure the safety and integrity of the State Water Project facilities and right-of-way, and the safety of the public.
