- (a) “Council” or “CRC” means the State Civil Rights Council created by section 12903 of the Government Code pursuant to Senate Bill 1038 (2011-2012 Reg. Sess.) (Stat. 2012, Ch. 46) and renamed pursuant to Senate Bill 189 (2021-2022 Reg. Sess.) (Stat. 2022, Ch. 48).
- (b) “Department” or “CRD” means the Civil Rights Department created by section 12901 of the Government Code pursuant to the Governor's Reorganization Plan No. 1 (1980).
- (c) “Person” includes one or more individuals, partnerships, associations or corporations, legal representatives, trustees, trustees in bankruptcy, or receivers.
- (d) “Complainant” means the person who files a timely, verified complaint with the CRD alleging aggrievement by an unlawful practice.
- (e) “Respondent” means the person who is alleged to have committed an unlawful practice in a complaint filed with the CRD.
- (f) “Act” means the California Fair Employment and Housing Act, created by Government Code section 12900.
Unless a different meaning clearly applies from the context, the meaning of the words and phrases as defined in this section shall apply throughout this chapter:
