1. (a) Psychiatric technician programs shall include theory and correlated clinical experience.
2. (b) The curriculum shall develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to care for patients of all ages in current health care settings.
3. (c) Curriculum content shall be taught in a sequence that results in students' progressive mastery of knowledge, skills, and abilities.

4. (d) The curriculum content shall include:

   1. (1) Anatomy and physiology
   2. (2) Nutrition
   3. (3) Psychology
   4. (4) Normal growth and development
   5. (5) Nursing process
   6. (6) Communication, both verbal and written

   7. (7) Nursing science, which shall include:

      1. (A) Nursing fundamentals
      2. (B) Medical/surgical nursing
      3. (C) Communicable diseases, which shall include but not be limited to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
      4. (D) Gerontological nursing
   8. (8) Patient education

   9. (9) Pharmacology, which shall include:

      1. (A) Knowledge of commonly used drugs and their actions
      2. (B) Computation of dosages
      3. (C) Preparation of medications
      4. (D) Principles of administration
   10. (10) Classifications, treatment programs, and interventions for developmental disabilities.
   11. (11) Classifications, treatment programs, and interventions for mental disorders, which shall include addictive behaviors and eating disorders.
   12. (12) Leadership
   13. (13) Supervision
   14. (14) Ethics and unethical conduct
   15. (15) Critical thinking
   16. (16) Culturally congruent care
   17. (17) End-of-life care

5. (e) The following related courses may be taught by additional faculty. Additional faculty are persons who have qualification to teach in a community college or a state university in California or hold a baccalaureate degree in the field related to the curriculum content taught, or meet the requirement for a vocational credential.

6. (f) All curricular changes that significantly alter the program philosophy, conceptual framework, content, objectives, or other written documentation as required in Section 2581, shall be approved by the Board prior to implementation. Proposed curricular changes must be submitted to the Board in final form by the fifteenth day of the second month preceding the month of the Board meeting at which the changes will be considered. Revisions should include:

   1. (1) Explanation of changes;
   2. (2) Rationale for proposed revision;
   3. (3) Description of revised curriculum materials; and
   4. (4) Changes to behavioral objectives, if applicable.
