1. (a) “CCW DOJ Certified Instructor” means an instructor certified by the Department to provide the course of training described in Penal Code section 26165.
2. (b) “CCW license” means a license issued pursuant to Penal Code sections 26150, 26155, or 26170.
3. (c) “Department” means the California Department of Justice.
4. (d) “Licensing authority” means a sheriff of a county, or the chief or other head of a municipal police department of any city or city and county.
5. (e) “Prohibited Armed Persons File” has the same meaning as that in Penal Code sections 30000 and 30005.
6. (f) “Safe weapon practices” means (i) treat all firearms as if they are loaded; (ii) keep the firearm pointed in the safest possible direction; (iii) keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot; and (iv) know how to properly operate your firearm.

The following definitions shall apply wherever the terms are used throughout this Chapter.

1. New chapter 14 (articles 1-5, sections 4400-4440), article 1 (section 4400) and section filed 1-2-2024 as an emergency; operative 1-2-2024. Pursuant to Penal Code section 26225(d) this action is a deemed emergency and exempt from OAL review (Register 2024, No. 1).
