A. The board of behavioral health examiners is established consisting of the following members appointed by the governor:

1. 1. The following professional members:

   1. (a) Two members who are licensed in social work pursuant to this chapter, at least one of whom is a licensed clinical social worker.
   2. (b) Two members who are licensed in counseling pursuant to this chapter, at least one of whom is a licensed professional counselor.
   3. (c) Two members who are licensed in marriage and family therapy pursuant to this chapter, at least one of whom is a licensed marriage and family therapist.
   4. (d) Two members who are licensed in addiction counseling pursuant to this chapter, at least one of whom is a licensed independent addiction counselor.
2. 2. Four public members.

C. Each professional board member shall:

1. 1. Be a resident of this state for at least one year before appointment.
2. 2. Be an active licensee in good standing.
3. 3. Have at least five years of experience in an area of behavioral health licensed pursuant to this chapter.

D. Each public board member shall:

1. 1. Be a resident of this state for at least one year before appointment.
2. 2. Be at least twenty-one years of age.
3. 3. Not be licensed or eligible for licensure pursuant to this chapter unless the public member has been retired from active practice for at least five years.
4. 4. Not currently have a substantial financial interest in an entity that directly provides behavioral health services.
5. 5. Not have a household member who is licensed or eligible for licensure pursuant to this chapter unless the household member has been retired from active practice for at least five years.
