A. Notwithstanding section 28-5854, subsection A, the annual motor carrier fee for a motor vehicle that weighs more than twenty-six thousand pounds and that:

1. 1. Is driven less than two thousand miles each year is eighty dollars.
2. 2. Is driven two thousand or more miles but less than four thousand miles each year is one hundred sixty dollars.
3. 3. Has a valid transporter license plate issued pursuant to chapter 10, article 9 of this title is eighty dollars.

B. In order to qualify for the reduced motor carrier fees prescribed in subsection A of this section, a motor carrier shall:

1. 1. Apply to the department for reduced fee status.
2. 2. Submit the information required by the director to determine the eligibility of the motor vehicle to be classified under this section.
