1. 1. “Animal control agency” means a board, commission, department, office, or other administrative unit of federal or state government or of a political subdivision of the state that has the responsibility for controlling rabies in animals in a particular geographic area.
2. 2. “Approved rabies vaccine” means a rabies vaccine authorized for use in this state by the state veterinarian under A.A.C. R3-2-409.
3. 3. “Cat” means an animal of the genus species Felis domesticus.

4. 4. “Currently vaccinated” means that an animal was last immunized against rabies with an approved rabies vaccine:

   1. a. At least 28 days and no longer than one year before being exposed, if the animal has only received an initial dose of approved rabies vaccine;
   2. b. No longer than one year before being exposed, if the approved rabies vaccine is approved for annual use under A.A.C. R3-2-409; or
   3. c. No longer than three years before being exposed, if the approved rabies vaccine is approved for triennial use under A.A.C. R3-2-409.
5. 5. “Dog” means an animal of the genus species Canis familiaris.
6. 6. “Euthanize” means to kill an animal painlessly.
7. 7. “Exposed” means bitten by or having touched a rabid animal or an animal suspected of being rabid.
8. 8. “Ferret” means an animal of the genus species Mustela putorius.
9. 9. “Not currently vaccinated” means that an animal does not meet the definition of “currently vaccinated.”
10. 10. “Rabid” means infected with rabies virus, a rhabdovirus of the genus Lyssavirus.
11. 11. “Suspect case” means an animal whose signs or symptoms indicate that the animal may be rabid.
