Health and medical care
Arkansas Code § 9-28-403
(a)
(1) Each child shall have a medical exam at least annually.
(2) Health exams need not be repeated during the year if a child moves from one (1) facility or agency to another, provided the results of the exam are available to the receiving facility or agency.
(b) All medications shall be administered to children by staff according to medical instructions.
(c) The administering of all medications, including over-the-counter, shall be logged by the person administering the medicine at the time that the medication is given.
(d) The medication log shall include the:
(1) Child’s name;
(2) Time and date;
(3) Medication dosage; and
(4) Initials of the person administering the medication.
(e)
(1) All medications, excluding Epipens, inhalers, and glucagon kits, shall be kept securely locked and stored according to pharmaceutical recommendations.
(2) An age-appropriate and developmentally capable child may be provided or have access to nonnarcotic prescriptions with an approved safety plan.
(3) Examples include without limitation:
(A) Birth control;
(B) Acne cream; and
(C) Topical creams.
(f) Keys to medication storage areas shall be kept on the premises and readily accessible by staff at all times.
(g) Currently prescribed medications belonging to children shall be returned to the parent or custodian upon discharge.
