1. (a)

   1. (1) All seats shall have a minimum cushion depth of fifteen inches (15”) and must comply with all requirements of FMVSS 222.
   2. (2) School bus design capacities shall be in accordance with FMVSS 222.
2. (b) Upholstery shall conform with FMVSS 302.

3. (c)

   1. (1) Each seat leg shall be secured to the floor by a minimum of two (2) bolts, washers, and nuts.
   2. (2) Flange-head nuts may be used in lieu of nuts and washers, or seats may be track-mounted in conformance with FMVSS 222.
   3. (3) If track seating is installed, the manufacturer shall supply minimum and maximum seat spacing dimensions applicable to the bus, which comply with FMVSS 222.
   4. (4) This information shall be on a label permanently affixed to the bus.

4. (d) All seat frames attached to the seat rail shall be fastened with a minimum of two (2):

   1. (1) Bolts;
   2. (2) Washers and nuts; or
   3. (3) Flange-head nuts.
5. (e) All school buses (including Type A) shall be equipped with restraining barriers, which conform to FMVSS 222.

6. (f)

   1. (1) A flip-up seat may be installed at any side emergency door, provided that it conforms with FMVSS 222 and the aisle clearance requirements of FMVSS 217.
   2. (2) The flip-up seat shall be free of sharp projections on the underside of the seat bottom.

   3. (3) The underside of the flip-up seat bottoms shall be padded or contoured to reduce the possibility of:

      1. (A) Clothing being snagged; or
      2. (B) Personal injury during use.
   4. (4) Flip-up seats shall be constructed to prevent passenger limbs from becoming entrapped between the seat back and the seat cushion is in the upright position.
   5. (5) The seat cushion shall be designed to rise to a vertical position automatically when it is not occupied.
