The purposes of this part are to:
- (1) Establish requirements and procedures for the issuance, licensure, relicensure, and continuance of licensure of educators in the public schools of this state, as required by Arkansas Code § 6-17-402;
- (2) Provide for the acceptance of educator licenses by reciprocity, as required by Arkansas Code § 6-17-403;
- (3) Implement as a prerequisite to licensure the requirement of assessments adopted by the State Board of Education, as required by Arkansas Code §§ 6-15-1004, 6-17-402, and 6-17-601;
- (4) Implement as a prerequisite to licensure the requirement of college-level coursework in Arkansas history for certain educators, as required by Arkansas Code § 6-17-418;
- (5) Provide for the issuance of provisional licenses, as required by Arkansas Code §§ 6-17-403 and 6-17-418;
- (6) Provide for the issuance of provisional and standard licenses through alternative educator preparation programs, under Arkansas Code § 6-17-409;
- (7) Provide for a lifetime teaching license under Arkansas Code § 6-17-2601 et seq.; and
- (8) Provide the minimum requirements for Division of Elementary and Secondary Education approval of educator preparation programs offered by an institution of higher education in Arkansas and alternative educator preparation programs based on the recommendations of the Professional Licensure Standards Board under Arkansas Code § 6-17-422.
