Arkansas’s foundation for kindergarten readiness:
- (1) Kindergarten readiness will be measured by a Department of Education state-approved assessment aligned with the Early Learning Standards in Arkansas;
(2) Kindergarten readiness includes the following domains:
- (A) Physical health, well-being, and motor skills;
- (B) Social-emotional development including self-regulation and relationships with peers and adults;
(C) Language and literacy development including:
- (i) Language understanding;
- (ii) Emergent literacy; and
- (iii) Early writing;
(D) Cognition and general knowledge including:
- (i) Math;
- (ii) Science; and
- (iii) Problem solving; and
(E) Approaches to learning including:
- (i) Initiative;
- (ii) Attentiveness;
- (iii) Persistence; and
- (iv) Play;
- (3) Kindergarten-ready children have the social, emotional, and academic knowledge, skills, and behaviors for school success and lifelong learning; and
- (4) Kindergarten readiness occurs when families, schools, and communities support the healthy foundation of children’s growth so they are successful in school and in life.
