English learners assessment
Arkansas Code § 6-11-105; Arkansas Code § 6-11-112; Arkansas Code § 6-15-2905
- (a) English learners, including those with less than one (1) year in a United States school, shall participate in the statewide student assessment system.
(b)
(1) English learners may access state-approved accommodations provided such accommodations:
- (A) Have been recommended by the student’s language proficiency assessment committee (LPAC); and
- (B) Are used regularly in classroom instruction and assessment.
- (2) Only those accommodations that do not interfere with the validity of the test may be used on the assessment.
(c)
- (1) An assessment of English language proficiency which measures the English language proficiency standards shall be administered annually.
- (2) All English learners in grades kindergarten through twelve (K-12) shall participate in the English language proficiency assessment.
- (3) The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education shall establish student performance levels that indicate the English learner’s level of English language proficiency.
