(a)
- (1) Rising high school seniors who are residents of Arkansas and attending any public school district, open-enrollment public charter school, or private high school, or who are enrolled in a home school, are eligible for nomination.
- (2) Schools may nominate up to five (5) students or ten percent (10%) of their junior class, whichever is greater.
- (3) The list of nominated students shall be representative of the rising high school senior student population and nondiscriminatory procedures shall be used to determine which students are nominated for AGS.
(b)
(1) Student selection is based on multiple criteria that include but are not limited to:
- (A) Student accomplishments, achievements, awards, and evidence of task commitment;
- (B) Student responses to application prompts;
- (C) Student auditions if applying in arts areas;
- (D) Educator’s or educators’ recommendation or recommendations;
- (E) Current assessment data;
- (F) Grades; and
- (G) The student’s transcript.
(2)
- (A) Public school districts, open-enrollment public charter schools, private schools, or parents or guardians of students enrolled in a home school submit applications to the AGS director or AGS directors or their representative at the host institution.
- (B) Public school districts, open-enrollment public charter schools, private schools, or parents or guardians of students enrolled in a home school supply data, including current transcript and assessment data, that provides evidence of the suitability of the nominated student based on the criteria outlined above.
- (C) Nominated students complete portions of the application reflecting their:
(i) Interests;
(ii) Achievements; and
(iii) Commitment to AGS.
- (c)
- (1) The AGS student selection committee shall review submitted student applications.
(2) Each application is:
- (A) Reviewed by multiple committee members; and
- (B) Considered in its totality by each reviewer.
(3) Attention shall be given to selecting a group of qualified students that is consistent with 6 CAR § 7-102(6), including representation from all geographic regions of the state and student groups.
- (d)
- (1) After reaching consensus regarding which students will be invited to attend AGS, the AGS student selection committee shall submit its decisions regarding the status of student applications to the AGS director or AGS directors.
- (2) The AGS director or AGS directors shall communicate the status of each student’s application to the student and school in writing.
