(a)
- (1) The individual has the ultimate responsibility for making their own life choices and realizing the consequences of those choices.
- (2) It is the responsibility of the vocational rehabilitation counselor to encourage the development of an individual’s ability to make informed choices.
(3) It is the individual’s responsibility to:
- (A) Ask questions;
- (B) Engage in realistic self-evaluation;
- (C) Seek out information;
- (D) Take initiative;
- (E) Follow through on tasks;
- (F) Gain experience in the world of work;
- (G) Commit to an employment outcome; and
- (H) Challenge the system when necessary.
(b)
(1) The relationship between the individual and the vocational rehabilitation counselor is a partnership based on:
- (A) Mutual respect;
- (B) Mutual cooperation;
- (C) Shared information; and
- (D) Shared responsibility for achieving outcomes.
- (2) The Division of State Services for the Blind’s goal is to help develop the individual’s ability to make informed choices and to take effective charge of their life so they can achieve a successful competitive integrated employment outcome.
(3) The division’s efforts to facilitate the individual’s exercise of informed choice includes:
- (A) Providing encouragement;
- (B) Offering objective and factual information; and
- (C) Assisting the individual in exploring their potential and range of possibilities.
