(a) Assistive technology devices.
- (1) Assistive technology means any item, piece of equipment, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
(2) This includes but is not limited to items such as:
- (A) Canes;
- (B) Adaptive cooking items;
- (C) Braille devices; and
- (D) Insulin gauges.
(b) Technology evaluations.
- (1) All Division of State Services for the Blind purchases of computers or software must go through the division’s Technology Lab.
- (2) The VR counselor will make a referral to the Technology Lab for an assessment of the consumer.
- (3) After completing the assessment, the Technology Lab will make a recommendation for purchase to the VR counselor.
(c) Assistive technology services and training.
(1) Services include:
- (A) The evaluation of technology needs;
- (B) Maintenance and repair of assistive technology; and
- (C) Training on the use of the technology.
- (2) This service entails the provision of and instruction in the use of devices that are specially designed and adapted to the needs of visually impaired persons.
