Any district judge shall be eligible for a retirement benefit if the judge has served at least:

1. (1) Twenty (20) years of total service upon reaching age fifty (50);
2. (2) Sixteen (16) years of total service upon reaching age sixty (60); or
3. (3) Eight (8) years of total service upon reaching age sixty-five (65).
