If bill acceptors are designed to be factory set only, it shall not be possible to access or conduct maintenance or adjustments to those bill acceptors in the field, other than:

1. (1) The selection of bills, coupons, ticket vouchers, or other approved notes and their limits;
2. (2) Changing of the certified control program;

3. (3)

   1. (A) Adjustment of the tolerance level for accepting bills or notes of varying quality should not be allowed externally to the machine.
   2. (B) Adjustments of the tolerance level should only be allowed with adequate levels of security in place.

   3. (C) This can be accomplished through:

      1. (i) Lock and key;
      2. (ii) Physical switch settings; or
      3. (iii) Other accepted methods approved on a case-by-case basis;
4. (4) Maintenance, adjustment, and repair per approved factory procedures; or
5. (5) Options that set the direction or orientation of acceptance.
