- (a) A portable fire extinguisher that has undergone internal examination or has been recharged shall have a “Verification of Service” collar located around the neck of the container.
(b) The following types of portable fire extinguisher do not require a verification of service collar:
- (1) Cartridge or cylinder-operated fire extinguishers; and
- (2) Extinguishers capable of or allowed to be recharged without removal of the valve assembly (CO2 or halon).
(c)
- (1) The collar shall be made of a durable rigid polymer material.
- (2) Collars made of high-density polyethylene or other nonrigid materials shall not be acceptable or approved.
- (3) The smallest applicable collar size shall be installed on the neck of each extinguisher.
- (4) The collar shall contain a single circular piece of uninterrupted material forming a hole of a size that will not permit the collar assembly to move over the neck of the container unless the valve is completely removed.
- (5) The collar shall not interfere with the operation of the fire extinguisher.
- (d) The verification of service collar shall include the month and year the service was performed, indicated by a hand-punch perforation.
