1. (a) In all cases involving medical and surgical treatment, hospitalization, drugs (except for acute medical care), and all medically directed therapies, a written consultation must be obtained from the medical consultant and attached to the ECF.

2. (b) The medical consultant’s role is to:

   1. (1) Assess medical information for the provision of guidance on the medical aspects of the client’s disability, including:

      1. (A) Symptoms;
      2. (B) Functional limitations;
      3. (C) Treatment and diagnostic tests; and
      4. (D) Standards of care; and
   2. (2) Provide clarification of medical reports.

3. (c)

   1. (1) Medical consults may be:

      1. (A) Provided by Arkansas Rehabilitation Services personnel;
      2. (B) Obtained elsewhere at no cost to Arkansas Rehabilitation Services; or
      3. (C) Purchased by Arkansas Rehabilitation Services.
   2. (2) This will be contingent on the availability of Arkansas Rehabilitation Services personnel.

4. (d) Procedures — Medical consultant.

   1. (1) The medical consultant will review medical/psychiatric reports and make recommendations.
   2. (2) The medical consultant will complete the medical consultant form.
   3. (3) The form will be attached to ECF.
