- (a) “Night care” means any care provided after midnight.
(b)
- (1) The caregiver shall remain awake at all times children are in care.
- (2) Alternative compliance may be requested to allow the caregiver to sleep after the children are in bed for the night.
(3) For this request to be approved, consideration will be given to:
- (A) The overall level of licensing compliance;
- (B) The use of motion detectors or other alarms to alert the caregiver if children leave the sleeping area;
- (C) The ages, numbers, and sexes of the children in overnight care; and
- (D) Written notification to parents that the caregiver will be sleeping during overnight care.
- (c) There shall be a plan for evacuating children to safety in case of fire or emergency.
(d)
- (1) Children arriving in the daylight hours shall have outdoor play, weather permitting.
- (2) Older children shall have time for reading or doing homework during the school year.
(e)
- (1) Homes with only one (1) caregiver shall limit care to no more than two (2) shifts (eighteen (18) hours) per twenty-four-hour period.
- (2) Homes offering twenty-four-hour care shall provide a schedule verifying that they have made provisions for a secondary caregiver to provide relief care for one (1) shift.
(3) Alternative compliance may be requested by caregivers who:
- (A) Provide twenty-four-hour care; and
- (B) Do not have a secondary caregiver.
(4) For this request to be approved, consideration will be given to the:
- (A) Overall level of compliance with the licensing requirements; and
- (B) Number and ages of children in care during the third shift.
(f)
- (1) Evening meals shall be served.
- (2) The licensee shall ensure that children spending the night are served breakfast.
- (g) Drinking water shall be available to children during the night.
(h)
- (1) Bathing facilities shall be available.
- (2) Hot water shall be available.
- (3) Children shall not take baths together or share the same bath water.
- (4) Tubs or showers shall be cleaned after each use.
- (5) Children shall be given fresh washcloths and towels.
- (6) Preschool children shall never be left alone when bathing.
- (7) Privacy shall be ensured for school-age children.
(i)
- (1) Each child in night care shall be given a bed or cot with mattress or pad and a pillow.
(2)
- (A) If linens become soiled, they shall be changed.
- (B) Protective mattress covers shall be used and washed at least weekly.
- (3) Each child’s bed or cot shall have a cover available.
- (4) Beds or cots shall be arranged at least one foot (1’) apart.
