1. (a)

   1. (1) Education directly related to employment is a noncore activity defined as an educational program that is related to a specific:

      1. (A) Occupation;
      2. (B) Job; or
      3. (C) Job offer.
   2. (2) This activity is for participants who are lacking a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalency.
   3. (3) Supervised and unsupervised time is included in the definition.

2. (b) Education directly related to employment includes:

   1. (1) Courses designed to provide the knowledge and skills for specific occupations or work settings;
   2. (2) English for speakers of other languages;
   3. (3) Basic education;
   4. (4) Education leading to a GED or a high school equivalency diploma when it is a prerequisite for employment by an employer; and
   5. (5) Distance learning programs that meet the qualifications discussed below.

3. (c) Distance learning programs will be counted if the education provider can submit:

   1. (1) Weekly reports verifying the actual time the participant spent in the activity; and
   2. (2) Documentation that this training is required for a specific occupation.

4. (d)

   1. (1) Unsupervised participation in educational and training activities, homework time, or study time may be reported as participation.
   2. (2) Monitored study sessions may be included and reported as participation only if the education or training provider is able to verify attendance and participation.

5. (e)

   1. (1) The total study time, supervised and unsupervised, counted for participation cannot exceed the hours required or advised by the education provider.
   2. (2) Sufficient documentation must be provided to the Program Eligibility Specialist for this participation to be included in the work activity hours.
   3. (3) One (1) hour of unsupervised study time will be counted for every credit hour the participant is enrolled and participating.

6. (f)

   1. (1) The education provider and participant will complete and sign TEA-1407, Participant Time Card/Progress Report, showing actual hours.
   2. (2) The report will be submitted biweekly and include all of the supervised time spent in this activity.
7. (g) All documentation will be maintained in the participant’s file.
