20 CAR § 414-506 – Furnishings, equipment, and supplies

(a)
1. (1) Each resident shall be provided with a rigid single bed in good repair measuring a minimum of thirty-six inches (36”) in width.
2. (2) The beds shall be equipped with a suitable, comfortable pillow and a comfortable, firm mattress in good repair which is four to five inches (4”-5”) thick and shall be covered with a moisture repellant material.
3. (3) Beds in areas housing nonambulatory residents shall be provided with three-inch casters and at least two (2) of the four (4) casters shall be of the locking type.
(b) Each resident shall be provided with appropriate storage space for personal items within his or her bedroom area.
(c) Each resident shall be provided with a comfortable chair at the bedside unless contraindicated for programmatic reasons.
(d) Each window shall be provided with flame-retardant curtains.
(e) All wastebaskets shall meet the flame retardant requirements under the NFPA standards.
