(a)
(1) All floor surface throughout the building shall provide a surface or finish which is:
- (A) Resilient;
- (B) Nonabrasive;
- (C) Slip resistant;
- (D) Smooth;
- (E) Waterproof;
- (F) Grease proof; and
- (G) Resistant to heavy wear.
- (2) Exposed floor surfaces and floor coverings shall promote mobility in areas used by clients and shall promote maintenance of sanitary conditions.
- (3) Safety devices shall be provided on ramps.
- (4) All floors in baths, toilets, lavatories, and beneath kitchen dishwashing facilities shall have a floor covering of a continuous type.
- (5) No cracks or joints in the floor covering shall be permitted in these rooms.

- (A) Nonabrasive carpet is permitted as floor covering for offices, corridors, day rooms, and living rooms, provided, the carpet meets the following requirements.
- (B) The carpet has a flame spreading rate of seventy-five (75) or less, has a smoke density of one hundred (100) or less, and the fuel contribution factor is one hundred (100) or less, when the carpet is tested in accordance with NFPA 253, Flooring Radiant Panel Test.
(b)
- (1) No pad will be permitted under the carpet.
- (2) The carpet is to be glued directly to the floor.
- (3) Prior approval by the Division of Provider Services and Quality Assurance is required before the carpet is installed.
- (4) In facilities where carpet is installed, the home must furnish equipment and have written cleaning procedures to clean and maintain the carpet.
(c)
- (1) Facilities presently having carpets in areas other than those listed above may keep that carpet as long as it is maintained properly and free of odors.
- (2) If not properly maintained and free of odors, the carpet will be removed and replaced with a hard, smooth surface.
