(a) Intent and general requirements.

1. (1) Therapeutic activities can:

   1. (A) Improve a resident’s eating or sleeping patterns;
   2. (B) Lessen wandering, restlessness, or anxiety;
   3. (C) Improve socialization or cooperation;
   4. (D) Delay deterioration of skills; and
   5. (E) Improve behavior management.
2. (2) Therapeutic activities shall be designed to meet the resident's current needs.

(b)

1. (1) All facilities with an ASCU shall provide activities appropriate to the needs of individual residents.
2. (2) The activities shall be provided and directed by direct care staff under the coordination of a program director.
3. (3) Each resident's daily routine shall be structured or scheduled so that activities are provided seven (7) days a week.

4. (4) A professional with specialized training in the care of Alzheimer’s disease shall be utilized or contracted to:

   1. (A) Develop required daily activities;
   2. (B) Train direct care staff in those programs; and
   3. (C) Provide ongoing consultation.

(c) Required daily activities. The following activities shall be offered daily:

1. (1) Gross motor activities, e.g., exercise, dancing, gardening, cooking, etc.;
2. (2) Self-care activities, e.g., dressing, personal hygiene, or grooming;
3. (3) Social activities, e.g., games, music, socialization; and
4. (4) Sensory enhancement activities, e.g., reminiscing, scent and tactile stimulation.
