The following are general provisions concerning furnishings and equipment that each residential long-term care facility must meet:

1. (1) All rooms, including bedrooms, must have working light switches at the entrance to the room;

2. (2)

   1. (A) Windows must be kept clean and in good repair and supplied with:

      1. (i) Curtains;
      2. (ii) Shades; or
      3. (iii) Drapes.
   2. (B) Each operable window shall have a screen which is clean and in good repair;
3. (3) Light fixtures in resident use areas must be equipped with covers to prevent glare and hazards to the residents;
4. (4) All fans located within seven feet (7’) of the floor must be protected by screen guards;

5. (5)

   1. (A) Dining room space and furnishings in good repair must be provided for each resident in the facility.
   2. (B) Dining room space and furnishings must be sufficient to serve the residents in no more than two (2) shifts;
6. (6) All facilities must have at least one (1) telephone available for outside calls for every forty (40) residents;

7. (7) All furnishings and equipment must be:

   1. (A) Durable;
   2. (B) Clean; and
   3. (C) Appropriate to its functions;
8. (8) All areas of a facility must be well lighted to ensure resident's safety;
9. (9) The facility must provide and maintain draperies, equipment, and furniture in good condition;

10. (10)

    1. (A) Residents may provide their own linens, but may not be required by the facility to do so.

    2. (B) The following minimum amounts of linen must be available in the facility at all times:

       1. (i) Sheets — two (2) times the facility's census;
       2. (ii) Pillow cases — two (2) times the facility's census;
       3. (iii) Bath towels — two (2) times the facility's census;
       4. (iv) Hand towels — two (2) times the facility's census;
       5. (v) Washcloths — two (2) times the facility's census;
       6. (vi) Blankets — one (1) for each resident; and
       7. (vii) Pillows — one (1) per resident;

11. (11)

    1. (A) Bed linens must be changed at least weekly or more often as needed.
    2. (B) Beds shall be straightened as necessary by the resident or facility staff; and

12. (12)

    1. (A) Wastepaper baskets and trash containers used in the facility must be metal or Underwriter's Laboratory-approved plastic baskets.
    2. (B) Outside trash containers must be equipped with covers, but this requirement may be waived if trash and garbage is placed in bags and sealed.
