- (a) Monitoring temperatures in milk banks is critical to the safety of the breast milk distributed.
- (b) The quality and accuracy of thermometers used to monitor temperatures in refrigerators and freezers and at critical points in the pasteurization process must be verified.
(c) Thermometers in freezers and refrigerators.
- (1) A minimum of two (2) calibrated thermometers are used to monitor temperatures in freezers and refrigerators.

- (A) Thermometers may be certified calibrated by a national metrology institute such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology or an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited calibration laboratory that is accredited by an ILAC-recognized accreditation body for the calibration of reference thermometers.
- (B) The milk bank shall verify working thermometers against the calibrated reference thermometers at least quarterly.
- (C) The breast milk bank must keep records of calibration and verification records.
