- (a) An annual volume of at least one hundred twenty-five (125) admitted pediatric patients (less than or equal to fifteen (≤15) years of age).
(b)
- (1) The hospital seeking pediatric Level II designation shall meet all the criteria listed for an adult Level I or II facility.
(2) In addition, a hospital seeking a Level II pediatric trauma center designation shall have:
- (A) A designated pediatric area in the ED staffed with pediatric trauma personnel and appropriate equipment; and
- (B) A pediatric ICU with appropriately trained personnel and equipment.
(c) A Level II pediatric trauma center shall have, at a minimum, the following specialists active on the trauma call panel and involved in the Trauma Peer Review Committee and the Trauma Program Operations Review Committee:
- (1) One (1) pediatric surgeon;
- (2) One (1) pediatric orthopedist or an orthopedist meeting an alternate pathway if deemed necessary by the Department of Health;
- (3) One (1) pediatric neurosurgeon or a neurosurgeon meeting an alternate pathway if deemed necessary by the department;
- (4) One (1) pediatric intensivist;
- (5) One (1) pediatric EM physician;
- (6) Pediatricians;
- (7) A pediatric TPM;
- (8) A trauma registrar; and
- (9) Pediatric-trained trauma nurses.
(d) All surgeons, intensivists, anesthesiologists, and EM providers not formally trained in a pediatric sub-specialty shall:
- (1) Be credentialed specifically by the facility to care for children of all ages;
- (2) Have their credentials reviewed and approved by the TMD; and
- (3) Have pediatric trauma-specific CME.
(e) A Level II pediatric trauma center shall also have the following:
- (1) A separate and distinct trauma QI program;
- (2) Pediatric-specific clinical care guidelines and pathways;
- (3) Ongoing pediatric trauma education for physicians and nurses;
- (4) A pediatric-specific massive transfusion protocol;
- (5) A pediatric-specific IVP program; and
- (6) A child abuse assessment team or protocols in place for the assessment and treatment of children with known or suspected child maltreatment.
