(a) Proper diagnosis.

1. (1) Counselors take special care to provide proper diagnosis of mental disorders.
2. (2) Assessment techniques (including personal interview) used to determine client care (e.g., locus of treatment, type of treatment, or recommended follow-up) are carefully selected and appropriately used.

(b) Cultural sensitivity.

1. (1) Counselors recognize that culture affects the manner in which clients’ problems are defined.
2. (2) Clients’ socioeconomic and cultural experience is considered when diagnosing mental disorders.
