(a)
- (1) In connection with claims for payment on medical bills not covered by insurance made by victims, the Crime Victims Reparations Board will award up to sixty-five percent (65%) of medical bills, not to exceed a total reimbursement of ten thousand dollars ($10,000).
- (2) However, for those victims whose injuries are catastrophic and result in a total and permanent disability, the total reimbursement shall not exceed twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000).
- (b) The provider of medical services to whom the award is made will be notified that by accepting the payment of sixty-five percent (65%) of their bill, they are agreeing not to commence civil actions against the victim or his or her legal representative to recover the balance due under the bill.
(c) Acceptance of payment for services paid by the board:
- (1) Shall be considered payment in full; and
- (2) Bars any legal action for collection.
