There are six (6) general conditions for eligibility:
- (1) The applicant must be an Arkansas public school, charter school, or private school applying on behalf of students invited to participate in the NHD National Contest representing Arkansas;
- (2) One hundred percent (100%) of the grant award must be used to offset expenses related to the cost of the specified student attending the NHD National Contest;
- (3) The application must demonstrate the student's use of primary and secondary sources of history;
- (4) The application must demonstrate how the student gained familiarity with libraries, archives, museums, or historic sites in preparing the project;
(5) The applicant must demonstrate familiarity with the:
- (A) Grant guidelines;
- (B) Goals of the NHD Travel Grant Program; and
- (C) Mission of the Division of Arkansas Heritage, which is to identify Arkansas's heritage and enhance the quality of life by the discovery, preservation, and presentation of the state's natural, cultural, and historic resources; and

- (A) Each applicant shall submit documentation required in these guidelines, including a portfolio of student work related to the student's NHD project.
(B) The portfolio will include these items for each student included in the grant proposal:
- (i) NHD Student Information Sheet (attached);
- (ii) Title page and process paper, as required by NHD; and
- (iii) Annotated bibliography, as required by NHD.
