- (a) A medicolegal death investigator shall perform, for the state medical examiner, a medicolegal death investigation of each death reported under AS 12.65.005.
(b) The state medical examiner, after evaluating all available information gathered during the medicolegal death investigation, may
- (1) assume jurisdiction for the purpose of performing the remainder of the medical death investigation under AS 12.65.020;
- (2) determine whether to transport the body to the office or another location for an examination;
- (3) determine the manner and cause of death; and
- (4) determine or confirm identity.
